These vintage-style decorations set a festive scene.
When it comes to holiday decorating, we love to go all out, that means inside the house and in the front yard. While you might expect traditional garland and plenty of twinkly lights, we've been known to go bigger and brighter when it comes to Christmas, and that means Christmas blow molds! Now, we do believe there is a time and place for Christmas inflatables (the time is now and the place is my front yard), but Christmas blow molds bring a special vintage charm to your outdoor display. Plus, unlike inflatables, they last longer. Even when stored properly, inflatable yard decorations can last only a few years, but, made from sturdier material, blow molds should be around much longer.
While you can search Etsy and eBay for true vintage (often rare) finds dating back to the 1960s, it can be hard to know if the lights work until you get it home. So we look for them on Amazon and Walmart and even at hardware stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Menards. When it comes to buying Christmas blow molds, pay special attention to the size. While most blow molds are around 2 to 3 feet tall, there are mini blow molds available meant for tabletops. Also take note of how the blow mold is powered. Some have batteries, while others have electrical cords and need to be plugged in, which will limit your placement or require an extension cord.
